Manchester United fans didn’t know much about the roles of Fletcher and Murtough until this summer. The two officials played a big part as the Red Devils made a breakthrough in the transfer of Jadon Sancho from German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. Manchester United are on course to wrap up a £73m deal for England international Sancho with an official confirmation expected in a matter of days.

English winger Sancho will be the second signing of the summer at Manchester United when his transfer is confirmed. Experienced goalkeeper Tom Heaton is the first summer signing after he returned to the club as a free agent this summer.

Darren Fletcher and John Murtough have been instrumental to the ongoing structural changes behind the scenes. The two Manchester United officials have been praised for the transfer of England international Jadon Sancho and the Red Devils fans have high hopes that the two officials can influence the transfer of other targets such as Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane and Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.

Manchester Evening News revealed that Justin Cochrane has been appointed by the Manchester United hierarchy to replace former player Nicky Butt as the head of first team player development. He was initially made the head of player development and coaching for the academy.

As a technical director, Darren Fletcher has impressed the club’s contacts alongside the aforementioned Murtough this summer.

Manchester United fans would be hoping for more signings this summer as they prepare to challenge champions Manchester City for the Premier League title in the new season. The Red Devils were the closest team to Manchester City at the end of last season’s Premier League campaign.
